Master barber John Cotton has over 20 years in the hair industry and is highly acclaimed for his unique and insightful approach to hair styling. John has elevated the definition of an innovative and contemporary hair stylist.
John began cutting hair while in high school and after graduating, he enrolled in Michigan Barber School and upon completion, at the age of 19, he opened Cotton Studios. After five very successful years, John relocated to New York City, expanded his clientele, opened the John Cotton Salon and is now hairstylist to entertainers and celebrities including Grace Jones, Maxwell, Calvin Kline, Quentin Harris, Jay Pharaoh, Tracey Morgan, Jussie Smollett, Billy Porter, Virgil Abloh, Ryan Jamaal Swain, and Dyllón Burnside. John has appeared on and done work for TV programs including The Rachel Ray show, Live with Kelly and Michael, The MTV Music Awards, and multiple New York Fashion Week fashion shows.
John’s innovation has expanded to providing clients with hair loss high-quality options for hair replacement with custom hair units. The hair unit, popularly known as a man weave, gives clients more style and confidence. John has been featured in GQ, on BET, Fox News, The Real, and on FX showcasing the hair units.
John is currently based out of the LW Salon in midtown Manhattan, often traveling the world to provide his global entertainment clients with the unique and sophisticated styling needed for their various appearances and publicity photo shoots. In addition, John volunteers annually to provide haircuts to raise money for various charities, and he teaches hair cutting and styling classes.
